Covered California, employer or other private insurance

Your insurance plan gets to choose the doctors you are allowed to see, the services that are covered and what those services cost for you. The following insurance plans and medical groups allow you to receive most routine services – like birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and STD testing and treatment – from Planned Parenthood:

  • Aetna PPO
  • Anthem
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, POS or EPO
  • Children’s Physicians
  • Cigna PPO, POS or EPO
  • Empire Physicians
  • HealthNet PPO, POS or EPO
  • Inland Valley IPA
  • Multicultural Primary Care
  • North County Health Services
  • Primary Care Associates
  • Riverside Physicians Network
  • UCSD
  • United Healthcare PPO

Many other insurance plans not listed above allow you to come to Planned Parenthood for certain specialty services, like sterilization, IUDs or abortion.

We recommend checking with your insurance plan before your visit to make sure the service you need is covered at Planned Parenthood, and to learn what visit costs (such as a co-pay or deductible) you might be responsible for.

Here’s how:

  1. Call the member service information number on the back of your insurance card.
  2. Tell your insurance what service you are seeking and that you will be visiting Planned Parenthood.
  3. Confirm your benefits and coverage and ask what your out-of-pocket costs will be. (We know health insurance can be confusing. Here’s a guide to what you need to know about co-pays, deductibles, formularies and networks.)
  4. If the service you're seeking is not covered, you can still visit Planned Parenthood.  Click on Cash, Credit Card and Payment Plans below for more information.

If you find that services at Planned Parenthood are not covered, ask your insurance plan to add us as a participating health care provider so you can take full advantage of our convenient, high-quality, compassionate care.

Family PACT (no-cost family planning services)

If you are uninsured, you may be able to receive no-cost reproductive health services under Family PACT, if you:

  • Are a California resident
  • Have no other health coverage for the family planning services you need
  • Meet specific income requirements

Ask our front desk staff about the program and they will ask a few simple screening questions.  If you are eligible, we can enroll you at the time of your appointment and provide services immediately.

You can find more information about eligibility here.

Cash, credit card and payment plans

If you are uninsured or prefer to pay out-of-pocket, we welcome cash and credit cards.

You may qualify for reduced prices on certain services based on your income; ask at the front desk when you check in.

The price you pay for services will be based on the number of symptoms or conditions you have, and how many services you need once you see one of our medical providers.  Because of this, it is difficult to provide an exact price until you meet a provider and are screened for reduced pricing. Our friendly contact center staff may be able to provide you an estimated price.

For most health services you may receive, we are able to set up an automated payment program so you can get everything you need today - and pay it off over a few months. Ask about our Plan Now, Pay Later program when you make your appointment.

Looking for Insurance?

coveredcagraphic.png New health insurance options are now available for people without insurance. These new options cover care when you're sick, hospital costs, prescription drugs and other services.  Insurance may be low- or no-cost to you. And you can still come to Planned Parenthood!

Some people qualify for financial assistance for Covered California health plans. You can see if you qualify at Covered California

You can enroll in Medi-Cal anytime. For Covered California plans, open enrollment happens each winter, typically November 1- January 31. In certain circumstances, you may enroll in Covered California before the next open enrollment period if you have a “qualifying event.”

If you want to continue to come to Planned Parenthood for routine care, like birth control, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and STI testing and treatment, see which insurance plans allow you to come to us in the tabs above. Go to Covered California for a complete list of options available to you, or to enroll.
