It’s currently recommended that we all stay at least 6 feet away from each other. But intimacy usually brings us a lot closer than that! COVID-19 has not yet been found in semen or vaginal fluid, but there are definitely some points you need to consider:

  • You’re your safest partner, so feel free to self-pleasure.
  • If your partner is someone you cohabitate with, you’re both monogamous, and neither of you are exhibiting any symptoms, then it should be okay to be intimate with each other.
  • It is not recommended to jump on a dating app, connect with strangers, or hook up with someone outside of your isolation zone.
  • DO NOT have sex with someone who is currently exhibiting symptoms like fever, shortness of breath, and/or a dry cough, or who is just not feeling well.
  • As always, it’s important to use birth control if a person is at risk of pregnancy.
  • Don’t forget STI protection: External/internal condoms, and dental dams, will help prevent sexually transmitted infections.

It’s also important to note that some people may be forced to quarantine with abusive partners right now. No one should be forced to have sex, or do anything else, against their will. Call the San Diego Crisis Line (1-888-385-4657) for help with this situation.
