New York Abortion Access Fund Co-Chair and self-proclaimed feminist Alison Turkos jumped head first (or should we say uterus first?) into 2015 with one of the first noteworthy viral moments of the year: #TurkosIUD.

In an effort to reduce the stigma and raise awareness of Long Acting Reversible contraceptives like the intrauterine device (IUD), Turkos took to Twitter to share her insertion story in real time.

Using the hashtag #TurkosIUD, she tweeted every detail from preparing for the procedure by stocking up on ibuprofen and ice cream to the quick, easy insertion (just under 2 minutes).

Turkos’ effort follows the New England Journal of Medicine study findings that LARC methods reduce teen pregnancy rates, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation of LARC as the first-line birth control method for adolescents, and findings that more women are choosing LARC methods.
