At Planned Parenthood, we are tremendously grateful for the people who are on the frontlines of abortion care. That is why we wanted to spotlight the Refinery 29 article Meet The Women Who Make Abortions Possible, which features the stories of five people who are doing this important work.

The article includes individuals like Abortion Doula Sarah. Her job is to provide unconditional love and support to patients who may not receive it anywhere else in their lives. While she only spends five to 10 minutes – that’s about how long a first-trimester procedure takes – with each of her patients, she is there for whatever the patient may need in the moment.

Whether it’s small talk to put the patient at ease, holding a hand during the procedure, or a mutually agreed upon silence, Sarah is the support system from the beginning of the procedure to the end.

And she isn’t the only one. Read the stories of four other brave women who each play a significant role in the abortion process.
