Ways to Register to Vote - California

The upcoming General Election is on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

How to register to vote or update your voter registration:

  • Online: You can register for the first time or update your registration online through October 29, 2020. Visit: https://registertovote.ca.gov/

  • By Mail: To register by mail, the form must be postmarked by Monday, October 19, 2020.

    • If you would like to register using a paper voter registration application, you can pick one up at your county elections office, library, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, or U.S. post office.

    • Or you can download a voter registration form directly from the Secretary of State's voter registration page and mail it by the deadline.

  • By calling 1-800-345-VOTE
    •  You can call to request to have a voter registration form mailed to you.

If you are registering or re-registering less than 15 days before an election:

  • You will need to complete the Same-Day Voter Registration process and request your ballot in person at your county elections office, polling location or vote center.

For more information on voter registration and voting locations, contact your local county elections official.
