Donor Bill of Rights

Philanthropy is based on voluntary action for the common good. It is a tradition of giving and sharing that is primary to the quality of life. To assure that philanthropy merits the respect and trust of the general public, and that donors and prospective donors can have full confidence in the not-for-profit organizations and causes they are asked to support, we declare that all donors have these rights:

I. To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way the organization intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.

II. To be informed of the identity of those serving on the organization's governing board, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in its stewardship responsibilities.

III. To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements.

IV. To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.

V. To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.

VI. To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.

VII. To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organizations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.

VIII. To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors.

IX. To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that an organization may intend to share.

X. To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.

Donor Privacy Policy

This privacy policy incorporates by reference Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Privacy Policy found at https://www.plannedparenthood.org/privacy-policy.

A. Donor Privacy Policy Statement

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) respects, and is committed to protecting, the privacy of our donors and the information you share with us. We want to make you aware of our donor data and privacy practices, detailed in this Donor Privacy Policy, which describes the ways in which PPMM uses, discloses, and collects information from or about our donors. 

Important note:  This Donor Privacy Policy does not apply to information you may share with PPMM in connection with your access to and/or receipt of healthcare services online or via in-person visits at facilities operated by PPMM.  Such information is protected by state and federal law and not shared with the Development Department.  Additionally, any donations made by patients remain completely anonymous, and no information about the donation is shared with the Development Department.  This Donor Privacy Policy also does not apply to gifts you make to Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) or other Planned Parenthood affiliates, as each is a separate organization with separate policies.

The full Donor Privacy Policy governing our donor data practices is listed below in the following sections: (1) how we use your information, (2) to whom we disclose your information, (3) how we collect information from or about you, (4) the choices you have with regard to the information we collect, and (5) how you may contact us.  We encourage you to read it carefully to understand how we will treat your information.

B. Definition of Terms

For the purposes of enhancing clarity and understanding, certain terms used in this policy have the following corresponding definitions:

  1. Products:  Refers only to donor-related products and information.
  2. Required Notices:  Refers to donor communications only, such as gift acknowledgement letters for tax purposes.
  3. Services/Online Services:  Pertains only to donor-related services.

C. How We Use Your Information

We may use the information we collect from or about you for a number of purposes including, but not limited to:

  1. Providing you with Products, Services, or information you request;
  2. Processing any transactions you have authorized;
  3. Following up on Services or information we provided to you;
  4. Contacting you about fundraising campaigns or advocacy efforts;
  5. Delivering advertisements targeted to your interests;
  6. Conducting research;
  7. Promoting PPMM’s donor Services, such as events;
  8. Providing you with information about the Online Services or Required Notices;
  9. Allowing us to improve the Online Services and the Services we provide;
  10. Generating and analyzing statistics about your use of the Online Services; and
  11. Detecting, preventing, and responding to fraud, intellectual property infringement, violations of our Terms of Use, violations of law, or other misuse of the Online Services.

We also may combine or aggregate any of the information we collect for any of these purposes, including for the delivery of Targeted Advertisements, in order to support and/or improve our donor and fundraising operational practices and Services.

D.  To Whom We Disclose Your Information

We may disclose the information we collect from or about you to:

  1. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA):  As part of the affiliate agreement with PPFA, PPMM is required to share data with PPFA that has been collected online via EveryAction;
  2. Contracted service providers who work on our behalf and who have agreed to keep the information confidential and use the information solely to carry out the services that they are performing for us, including, but not limited to, service providers who process credit card transactions, facilitate our fundraising activities and campaigns, and deliver Targeted Advertisements on our behalf;
  3. Other organizations that work with us for the provision of co-branded communications;
  4. Other organizations with whom PPMM participates in exchanges of supporter or donor information (for example, donor list rental or list exchange agreements) and the service providers that facilitate such exchanges;

NOTE:  Participating organizations with whom we exchange and/or rent information will be like-minded organizations, and exchange or rental agreements shall have an agreed upon time period limitation.

5. As required by law.

In addition, we may share aggregated de-identified information, such as reports on supporter demographics, with third parties, including researchers.

E.  How We Collect Information From or About You

We, and the service providers who work on our behalf, collect information that you provide when you give to PPMM or use PPMM’s Online Services, including, but not limited to, when you:

  1. Create an account;
  2. Make a donation;
  3. Contribute content to the Online Services;
  4. Use interactive features on the Online Services (for example, tools, apps, or the chat feature);
  5. Make a purchase;
  6. Sign an online petition;
  7. Sign up to receive updates and other communications from PPMM;
  8. Enter a contest, sweepstakes, or promotion;
  9. Participate in polls or surveys; or
  10. Otherwise contact us with a question, comment, or request.

The information that you provide us can include, but is not limited to:

  1. Your name;
  2. Your photograph;
  3. Your contact information;
  4. Your account information;
  5. Demographic information, such as your age, gender, and ethnicity;
  6. Transaction-related information, such as credit card information; and
  7. Information you provide when you request information or contact us.

We and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical information from your computer or mobile device over time and across different websites when you use the Online Services using cookies or similar technologies, such as your Internet Protocol address, your browser type, your operating system, the pages you view on the Online Services, etc.  This information allows us and our service providers to recognize you and personalize your experience if you return to the Online Services, to improve the Online Services and the Services we provide, and to provide you with advertisements targeted to your interests.

F.  Your Choices

If you do not want your name or other information about you included in list exchange or rental programs, you may opt out at any time by contacting us.  Our contact information is listed below.

If you do not want the Online Services to collect information through the use of cookies, you can set your web browser to reject cookies from the Online Services.

If you wish to review or correct the information we have on file for you or inform us how you wish your information to be used or disclosed, please contact our staff using the contact information below.

G. Changes to this Privacy Policy

If we update this Donor Privacy Policy, it will be with the express approval of our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and we will notify you by posting an updated Donor Privacy Policy on this webpage.  If we make any revisions to this Donor Privacy Policy that materially change the ways in which we use or disclose the information previously collected from you, we will notify you in writing.
