PrEP is a daily pill that can help prevent HIV. If you don’t have HIV, taking PrEP every day can lower your chances of getting HIV from sex by more than 90%. PrEP is also known by the brand name, Truvada.

If you think you’ve been exposed to HIV, PEP is a pill that can reduce your risk of getting HIV, if taken within 72 hours. Our clinicians can help you to understand your level of risk and your treatment options.

Should I get tested for HIV? 

Since PrEP and PEP are only prescribed for HIV-negative people, an HIV test is always given before any treatment can be prescribed. 

Every one of our 35 health centers offers accurate and confidential HIV testing.

How do I pay for PrEP or PEP? 

PrEP and PEP are covered by most insurance plans, including Medi-Cal, Medicare, and private employer plans.

If you do not have insurance, ask about medication assistance programs to receive PrEP or PEP at low- to no-cost for you.
