Planned Parenthood of New York City Activists, Patients and Elected Officials Rally to Fight “Defunding” Efforts

Today more than 500 Planned Parenthood of New York City supporters rallied outside the Manhattan health center in the snow to make it clear that they oppose efforts to defund and shut down Planned Parenthood health centers. Public officials who spoke at the rally include NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray, City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Public Advocate Tish James, NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer, Council Member Laurie Cumbo, Council Member Brad Lander, Council Member Dan Garodnick, Assemblymember Michael Blake, and NYS Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon.

On 10/16/16, Planned Parenthood of New York City celebrated turning 100 Years Strong with a press conference commemorating the opening of the first clinic by Margaret Sanger in 1916 in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Elected officials, patients, activists, staff and supporters spoke at City Hall, which was lit up in pink in celebration.

Planned Parenthood of New York City Announces $1,160,000 Grant From Keith Haring Foundation Toward HIV/AIDS Prevention

Today Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) announced that it has received a $1,160,000 grant from the Keith Haring Foundation. The grant, to be distributed over a 4-year period in increments of $290,000 per year, is an increased renewal of the Haring Foundation’s previous $1 million commitment to PPNYC and will go toward strengthening operations of the Keith Haring Foundation – Project Street Beat Mobile Medical Unit. Wrapped with vibrant Keith Haring artwork, the Mobile Medical Unit has become a familiar and welcoming neighborhood presence in underserved communities.

Planned Parenthood of New York City Will Begin Offering PrEP, Daily Drug Regimen to Help Prevent HIV

Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC) will begin offering PrEP on August 8 at its Manhattan health center and at all five health centers by the end of 2016. PrEP, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, is a treatment plan that involves a daily pill called Truvada that can help those at increased risk avoid HIV. When taken daily, the risk of contracting HIV can be reduced by more than 90 percent.
