We provide quality, compassionate care from an informed-consent model for our transgender patients.

We serve transgender people and people at various places on the spectrum of gender identity and expression. We are committed to improving the way transgender people receive health care in our region.

Hormone therapy plan and ongoing care

Hormone therapy may include:

  • Feminizing medications
  • Masculinizing medications

Care planning includes an examination, education, and treatment planning by a team of compassionate staff.

How do I make an appointment?

We offer hormone therapy at these locations:

  • Cedar Falls, Iowa
  • Cedar Rapids, Iowa
  • Des Moines, Iowa (starting January 2018)
  • Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Omaha, Nebraska

Since hormones can affect patients physically and emotionally, we require that patients seeking hormone therapy make their appointment over the phone. When you call to schedule your first visit, we will ask some questions about your medical history and talk with you about local resources to support a healthy transition. We will also ensure that you are able to provide us with a letter of support from a counselor stating that you are ready to transition.

Whether you’re already a patient or would like to become a new patient, simply call us at 1-877-811-7526 and make your appointment. (At this time, patients cannot schedule appointments for hormone therapy online.)

What can I expect during my initial visit?

The first appointment includes examination, education, and lab work plus discussion of goals and expectations, side effects, and risks of therapy. We do require that you bring a letter of support from a counselor stating that you are ready to transition to your appointment. Once the medical provider feels that you are medically ready to begin hormone treatment, they will gather your informed consent and begin to administer hormones.

I’m already on hormones. Can I transfer my care to Planned Parenthood and become a patient?

Yes. If you are already being seen by a medical provider for hormone treatment but wish to transfer your care to Planned Parenthood, you can do that.

What other services can I access at Planned Parenthood?

In addition to offering transgender hormone provision, we also offer an affirming environment for cancer screening, wellness education, STD testing and treatment, HIV testing, annual exams, pregnancy testing, birth control, emergency contraception, abortion care, and more.
