COVID-19 UPDATE

Masking is welcome at our health centers, but not required. You may also request that your provider wears a mask at your visit. 

If you develop a fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, congestion, runny nose, headache, new loss of taste or smell, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, or if you feel ill, please don't come in - call us at 888-875-7820 to reschedule your visit.

 

Be sure to bring these items to your appointment:

  1. Photo identification with date of birth indicated
  2. Insurance card, if you have coverage. (Insurance coverage for abortion care requires a prior authorization for most plans.)
  3. Payment for services if you do not have insurance or do not plan to use insurance. Payment can be accepted by cash or credit card. PPCW does not accept checks or American Express.

You can complete the patient registration form ahead of time.

How to prepare by appointment type:

Telemedicine Services

 

  • If you scheduled a telemedicine visit, our staff will provide information on how to access your appointment.
  • Our Telemedicine appointments, also called Telehealth, are $57 without insurance. This does not include costs for medication or lab testing. Telemedicine Medication Abortion appointments are $700.
Medication Abortion Information

General Information for Abortion Care

  • For most pain management options, you will not be able to drive yourself home. If you do not have a responsible adult companion to drive or escort you home, please contact our call center.
  • Do not use any unregulated, recreational and or illegally obtained drugs or substances, or alcohol on the day of your appointment. 
  • Continue taking any regular prescription medication. If you have an inhaler for asthma, please bring it with you.
  • If you are diabetic, you will need to be scheduled within the first hour of the day. Please bring your glucometer, glucose tablets and insulin if prescribed. You will need to speak with a nurse prior to your appointment. Please contact our call center with any additional questions or concerns.
  • Cascades Abortion Support Collective provides free physical, emotional, informational, and logistical support to anyone who is having an abortion in Portland and the greater surrounding areas. Transportation may be available through this service.

Medication Abortion Information:

  • For medication abortion, plan to be at the health center for 2 hours.
  • We recommend you make time to rest and recover after your abortion, which may be up to two days of recovery after the second pill is taken at home.
  • If possible, we recommend having a supportive person available during this time.

Procedural Abortion Information:

  • Procedural abortions require an appointment. 
  • If you’re having a procedural abortion, plan to be at the health center for 3 – 5 hours. 
  • If you are more than 18 weeks pregnant your abortion procedure will require multiple visits.
  • We recommend you make time to rest and recover after your appointment.
  • Recovery after a procedure generally requires rest for the remainder of the day. Read more about after care for procedures here.
Abortion Services with Deep Sedation
  • Deep sedation (“twilight sleep”) is available at the Northeast Portland Health Center.  When you come for your appointment, we will talk to you about the benefits and risks of deep sedation in detail.
  • If you desire to have deep sedation, please be sure to follow these instructions:
    • Do not eat or drink for 8 hours before your appointment.  
    • Do not smoke, chew gum or tobacco for 2 hours prior to you appointment.
    • You cannot drive yourself home after the appointment. If you do not have a responsible adult companion to drive or escort you home, please contact our call center.
    • If you have asthma, bring an inhaler if you have one.
    • If you have diabetes and are taking insulin, please talk to our staff about the requirements for preparing for deep sedation.
    • If you take daily medication, take it with a sip of water.
    • If you wear contact lenses: wear glasses on the day of the procedure or bring solution and a case so you can remove contact lenses prior to the procedure
    • Tongue piercing must be removed prior to the procedure.
    • If you have not followed the directions above, you WILL NOT be able to get deep sedation. You may still be able to have a procedure with a lower level of sedation, or you may be required to reschedule the appointment..
  • In-clinic abortion is offered up to 19 weeks and 6 days after the start of your last menstrual period. If your last period was after 19 weeks and 6 days, we can still help. Call us for a referral list of health care providers in your area that offer other abortion services. 
  • In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only. 
  • If you are more than 18 weeks pregnant, your in-clinic abortion will require multiple visits.
