Abortion Pill (Medication Abortion)
Abortion pill (medication abortion) is offered up to 10 weeks and 0 days after the start of your last menstrual period.
If your last period was more than 10 weeks and 0 days ago, read about our in-clinic abortion services below.
Abortion pill (medication abortion) services are available by appointment only.
You will need to follow up within 1-2 weeks to make sure your abortion is complete and that you are well. In the unlikely event that you are still pregnant, you may need another dose of medication or to have an in-clinic abortion to end the pregnancy.
After your abortion pill visit, you will need access to a telephone, transportation, and backup medical care available to you once you are home.
In-clinic abortion is offered up to 15 weeks and 6 days after the start of your last menstrual period. If your last period was after 15 weeks and 6 days, we can still help. Call us for a referral list of health care providers in your area that offer other abortion services.
In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.
Plan to be at the health center for 4-6 hour(s) for your entire visit for an in-clinic abortion.
If you desire medication to help make your in-clinic abortion more comfortable, you must have a responsible companion with you to help you get home safely.
If you are more than 15 weeks pregnant, your in-clinic abortion may require multiple visits.
If you have asthma, bring an inhaler if you have one.

Laws and Regulations
Effective January 1, 2004, patients are required to have DSHS mandated pieces of information by the Physician 24 hours prior to their abortion procedure. When a patient calls for an appointment, she will be offered the DSHS required reading materials, "A Woman's Right to Know", the "Resource Directory", and a written statement with the DSHS toll-free number to inquire about PPSHSNT's licensed abortion facilities. The patient will then be transferred to the Physician's audio recording as indicated by her LMP for the DSHS required information to obtain voluntary and informed consent as defined by HB 15. During the educational counseling session, the FPA will review the DSHS Certification form confirming that she has been informed by the Physician and offered the reading materials 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. These reading materials will be available by referring the patient to the DSHS website, referral to PPSHSNT family planning locations, and at each Surgi Center. The DSHS toll-free number will also be available on the PPSHSNT website, referral to PPSHSNT family planning locations, and at each Surgi Center. If the patient requests the materials to be mailed, it must be sent restricted and certified to the patient's address. This must be done 72 hours prior to the appointment. Texas law requires that a parent, legal guardian or managing conservator of an unemancipated minor give consent before a physician performs an abortion for the minor.
If you are a minor considering an abortion, please read about parental consent and notification laws that might apply in your state.
