Telehealth Appointments

Telehealth provides patients with "face-to-face," appointments where you meet online with one of our Planned Parenthood providers. For Telehealth appointments, you don't need to come into the health center – you'll be connecting from separate locations via a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Once you schedule an appointment with our contact center, you'll need to download Zoom, a web-based video conferencing tool that allows providers and patients to meet online.

Step 1

Download the Zoom app or visit www.zoom.com from your desktop to sign up for a free Zoom account (a valid email address is needed to confirm your Zoom account):

  • Open the "App Store" (iPhone) or "Play Store" (Android) on your device.

  • Search for "ZOOM Cloud Meetings."

  • Install the app then open Zoom:

    • If you don't have a Zoom account, you will need to create a free one.

    • Click the Sign-Up link at the bottom of the screen.

    • Enter your personal details, then click Next.

    • You'll receive a verification email within a few minutes. Follow the directions to activate your account. You will be asked to create a password.

  • Open the Zoom app and click the Sign In link.

  • You should see a home screen with an orange icon named New Meeting in the top left.

Step 2

A Planned Parenthood representative will call you on the phone at the time of your appointment and walk you through the Zoom log-in process:

  • Tap the Join icon.

  • A Planned Parenthood representative will provide you a 9-digit Meeting ID (e.g., 123-456-789) and 6-digit Password.

  • Ensure there is an icon with a lock next to your Meeting ID. This verifies a secure connection.

Step 3

You'll join a Planned Parenthood provider in a secure videoconferencing room and conduct a "face-to-face" online visit:

  • If you will need a prescription, visit any of our Planned Parenthood health centers to pick up your medication. Picking up your prescription at one of our health centers – Pasadena, Highland Park, Baldwin Park, Glendora, or Alhambra – shows support for your local Planned Parenthood and allows us to continue to keep our doors open.

Tips for a Successful Visit

  • Find a quiet, secure room to conduct your visit.
  • Using earbuds or headphones may help protect your privacy.
  • Ensure there is bright lighting on your face.
  • Do not sit with your back to a window; it may ruin the lighting.
  • Try to use a stable Wi-Fi connection when possible. Zoom will work with your phone's cell service but may count towards your data plan.
  • Use the "rotate camera" feature in the mobile app to switch between front and rear cameras

Many different kinds of appointments can be conducted via Telehealth video or phone calls. Our contact center or your Planned Parenthood provider will inform you if you need to come into a health center to pick up prescriptions or lab work in person.

Safe, Secure & Easy

Telehealth uses an easy-to-use videoconferencing platform that meets all HIPAA and federal security guidelines. Patients need access to a device with a web camera, mic and speakers, and reliable Internet connection.

To ensure privacy, please conduct your visit in a place that is secure and will keep your information private and confidential. Your Planned Parenthood provider will be conducting your video conferencing visit in a secure room to maintain your privacy and confidentiality.
