Volunteer

Volunteers are an important part of Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley.

Below is a brief description of our different volunteer opportunities. Please note that not all positions are available at all times. Thank you for your interest and support. We look forward to receiving your online application!

Health Center Volunteers
  • Abortion Patient Allies ensure our patients feel comfortable and emotionally supported before, during, and after surgical abortion procedures in clinic. We are looking for calming and peaceful presences to support our patients. Volunteers in this position serve for 12 months and must be available on Tuesdays or Thursdays. There is a wait list for this volunteer position. Good for: Empathetic people with big hearts and a calming, kind, friendly & supportive demeanor; must feel comfortable being in a medical setting.
  • Health Center Advocates provide education and advocacy opportunities to individuals in our health center waiting rooms. Our goal is to empower our patients into being advocates for themselves. We often use this to respond to current crisis or in recruitment for our storytelling initiative. Good for: People who aren’t afraid to talk to strangers and who can read a room.
  • Patient Greeters/Escorts welcome patients, their companions, and other visitors into and out of Planned Parenthood health centers. Greeters/Escorts serve as a calm presence during protester activity, acting as a barrier between patients and protestors. Weekday & daytime availability required.
  • Sidewalk Artists brighten up our health center walkways with positive messages and images with chalk. No art skills are required! Good for: folks of all ages!
Community Outreach Volunteers
  • Community Ambassadors attend health fairs and local events to share information about Planned Parenthood’s range of services and locations and to help dispel myths about Planned Parenthood. If you are interested in this role, you must attend an orientation, which are held 3-4 times throughout the year. Good for: Outgoing, lively & engaging people who like connecting others with PP services and education.
  • Political Advocacy components of our organization are continuing to grow. We often have need for people to help with phone banking, petition distribution or canvassing for advocacy issues. Good for: People passionate about the political environment who want to see their work pay off immediately!
  • Speakers develop skills to tell their Planned Parenthood story for a variety of platforms. From sharing their stories directly with friends, families, lawmakers to stepping onto a public stage at a fundraiser or rally, Speakers are ready to advocate and educate. Good for: Anyone who has a good story to tell why PP is important to them and would like to further their communication skills.
Special Skills Volunteers
  • Graphic Design Squad members lend their design expertise to our staff members in helping update old materials or beautify some new ones. This volunteer position happens from home on your own time and using your own computer. Good for: People who are better graphic design than we are!
  • Photography & Film skills are often needed to help us document our special events or prepare for a new campaign or materials. Good for: Anyone with film or photography experience and your own equipment.
  • Other special skills can always come in handy. We never know when we’ll need a baton twirler or someone who can sign to assist us with something special. Feel free to let us know if you have a special skill that might come in handy one day and we’ll be sure to document it!
Development Volunteers
  • Patron Committee members support our fundraising efforts by soliciting friends and family to attend and donate to upcoming Planned Parenthood events, such as our annual Fall Benefit gala. Ample support is provided by office staff and all Patron Committee volunteer work may be done remotely! Good for: Anyone who has great social networks or enjoys event planning!
  • Leadership Circle: Volunteers may serve on the Leadership Circle Committee, soliciting friends and family for annual gifts starting at $1,000. Ample support is provided by office staff and all volunteer work may be done remotely! The Leadership Circle drive takes place from November – April.
Special Event Support
  • Volunteers at special events throughout the year provide support through guest registration, greeting and directing guests, event photography, event set up and clean up, holding banners at rallies, and various other needs. On occasion, volunteers must be at least 21 years of age due to event venue. Good for: People who are good on their feet, flexible and hard working.
