**PRESS RELEASE**

Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley Expands Abortion Access by Launching a New Abortion Pill via Telehealth Service

Abortion patients can now choose to have their abortion pill mailed directly to them or it can be picked up from select PPPSGV health centers following a telehealth appointment with a medical provider.

Pasadena, Calif. — Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) is now offering telehealth abortion pill services (also known as medication abortion) to allow patients to get quick reliable health care from their computer, tablet, or smartphone. The launch of telehealth abortion services aims to increase access to safe and legal abortion care and provide individuals with a convenient and confidential option to receive care from a Planned Parenthood provider they trust. PPPSGV is the first Planned Parenthood affiliate to offer the abortion pill via telehealth in southern California.

"Our commitment to reproductive freedom and health care equity is what drives us to find new ways to meet the evolving needs of our communities," said Sarah Egan CNM, MS, Director of Medical Services at PPPSGV. "We recognize the challenges people can face in accessing abortion services, so we are committed to providing safe and convenient options. Our new telehealth abortion pill option allows us to meet our patients where they are and ensures they can receive the same quality care they're used to from anywhere in California."

The abortion pill via telehealth is an easy and quick way to meet people where they are and get them the essential care they need. Here's an overview of how to access the abortion pill online:

  1. Visit our website to make an appointment or for more information on our abortion services. Same-week appointments are available. Patients must be in California at the time of their appointment.
  2. Meet with a PPPSGV medical provider via telehealth to discuss options and confirm eligibility.
  3. Patients will be given the option to have the abortion pill mailed to them (estimated shipping time is 2-3 days) or it can be picked up that same day at any PPPSGV health center (Alhambra, Baldwin Park, Glendora, Highland Park or Pasadena).
  4. Seven days after the abortion pill is taken, patients may meet via telehealth with a medical provider to confirm the procedure was successful.

Over the past year, there has been a concerning trend of ongoing attacks on access to the abortion pill nationwide that aim to impose additional restrictions on abortion access. There is overwhelming evidence that the medications used for abortion - mifepristone followed by misoprostol - are safe and effective. These ongoing attacks create confusion and unnecessary barriers to care. The launch of telehealth abortion pill services is one way PPPSGV aims to break down unnecessary barriers to health care and ensure patients can continue to access safe and legal abortion medications without delay or struggle.
