Abortion remains safe and legal in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

Despite the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, abortion is still legal in our three states. Our doors remain open and we continue to provide our full range of services, including abortion care. This is because in overturning Roe, the Court is allowing each state to decide the legality of abortion and abortion remains legal here.

While abortion is legal here, there are a few restrictions:

Maine

Abortion is legal with one restriction: abortion after viability is banned, with exceptions for the health and life of the pregnant person.

New Hampshire

Abortion is legal with two restrictions: 1) a 24-week abortion ban with exceptions is in effect and 2) parental notification is in effect. This means the state requires that one of your parents be told of your decision 48 hours before your abortion. A judge can excuse you from this requirement.

Vermont

Abortion is legal with no restrictions.

Types of Abortion

There are two types of abortion: in-clinic abortion and the abortion pill.

PPNNE is now also offering Telehealth Visits for Abortion Pills for patients living in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont.

We're here for you.

Only you can decide what is best for you. But we are here to help. A staff member at a Planned Parenthood of Northern New England health center can discuss abortion and all of your options with you and help you find the services you need.

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England is a tax exempt 501 (c)(3) organization. Federal ID Number: 03-0222941
