Uninsured/Self Pay

The cost for a surgical in-clinic abortion includes admitting, pre-operative examination, lab work (pregnancy test, hematocrit, Rh type), ultrasound, RhoGAM (if necessary), routine post-operative medication (including pain medication), a form of contraception, routine pathology report, anesthesia charges and access to a 24-hour on-call telephone service available to all our abortion patients.

The cost for a medication abortion (abortion pill) includes the ultrasound, lab work, MicRhoGAM (if required), medications required for the procedure, pain medication, a form of contraception, your follow-up visit and access to a 24-hour on-call telephone service available to all our abortion patients.

Financial Assistance

If you are having an abortion at one of our health centers and need help paying for the procedure, financial assistance to help cover abortion services may be available to those who qualify. We have special funding which can help cover some of the cost. If interested, please ask about the eligibility requirements and the application process. External funding resources are also available for patients seeking abortion care.

Insured/Private Insurance

PPIL offers usual and customary rates for all services.

PPIL will verify your Insurance coverage prior to your appointment. It is important to note that all Medicaid, Federal Commercial, and Illinois Marketplace payers do not cover elective abortion services.

PPIL will submit claims on your behalf to your insurance company. You are responsible for your co-payment at the time of the visit. You are also responsible for all services not covered, any co-insurance due and all unmet patient deductibles.

Any remaining patient balances will be communicated to you via a mailed billing statement once we have received a response from the insurance carrier. For questions about specific charges covered by your insurance, you should contact your insurance carrier directly.

Please understand that we cannot guarantee confidentiality when using insurance. The policy holder will receive an explanation of benefits from the insurance carrier. Therefore, if you are a dependent or a spouse under someone else's policy, your confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

PPIL accepts the following private insurance plans:

  • Aetna (PPO, HMO, POS—No referral required)
  • BCBS PPO (Most) PPIL does not accept Blue Select Choice at this time.
  • Cigna (PPO, HMO)
  • Consociate Dansig
  • Coventry/Personal Care Network (No referral required)
  • HealthLink 
  • Humana (PPO—Certain plans must be verified prior to service)
  • MultiPlan (Includes PHCS, Beech Street, and numerous smaller carriers)
  • United Health Care (UHC)

Non-Participating Plans

If your insurance is not listed, PPIL may be out of your plan’s network. We encourage you to call the member service phone number listed on your insurance ID card prior to your appointment. Your member service department can give you detailed information pertaining to eligibility, benefits, and exclusions.

PPIL reserves the right to reject insurance plans that do not have contracts with us. We will still verify the coverage and determine the best benefit for you. We may ask for payment in full at the time of your visit.

Payment Options

We accept cash, money orders, debit cards, and all major credit cards (AMEX, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover). We do not accept checks.
