Learn More About the Daphne Hazel Achievement Project

The Daphne Hazel Achievement Project

The Daphne Hazel Achievement Project will bring fully integrated HIV health care and prevention services to PPGNY's Bronx health center and strives to improve health outcomes for people living with HIV and at high risk of HIV infection by taking a holistic, patient-centered approach that addresses a person's physical, emotional, social, and economic well-being.

The Daphne Hazel Achievement Project is made possible by a five-year grant from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s and Public Health Solutions PlaySure Network, which is dedicated to ending the HIV epidemic by partnering with medical clinics and front-line community partners.

Daphne S. Hazel

As Vice President of Project Street Beat from 1998 to 2013, Daphne S. Hazel shaped a health care program that personalized services based on a person’s unique life experience and medical history. Under her leadership, Project Street Beat intentionally centered the needs of communities of color, young people, homeless people, and LGBTQ+ individuals living with HIV, who faced rampant discrimination in health care settings, and are regularly denied access to life-saving treatment.

Planned Parenthood of Greater New York is proud to honor Daphne S. Hazel’s legacy by naming the program in her memory.

Project Street Beat

You can also access care through our Project Street Beat (PSB) program. Project Street Beat provides confidential, non-judgmental services to people of all genders. Our services are available regardless of immigration status or ability to pay. We work with individuals who are living with or at risk for HIV or who have chronic health conditions.

Project Street Beat offers a variety of mobile services via the Mobile Health Center and the Plan Van. Please note that the Mobile Health Center covers New York City and the Plan Van covers Nassau County.
