Statement by Lillian Tamayo, President of Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast, on National Latino AIDS Awareness Day
For Immediate Release: May 19, 2014
On Thursday, October 15, Planned Parenthood will join hundreds of organizations across the country to promote and provide HIV testing and information in recognition of National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD).
HIV/AIDS is the fourth largest killer of Latinos aged 35 to 44 in the United States, and NLAAD provides us with a unique opportunity to remind Latinos across the country that the epidemic continues to threaten their health and lives, as it does so many others in the United States and around the world.
NLAAD is also the perfect time to work with members of the Latino community, including Latino health professionals, media professionals, and other partners, to share the news that Planned Parenthood health centers are available year-round to help everyone in the Latino community stay healthy and fight HIV/AIDS.
For more information on where to get tested for HIV, please visit www.ppsoflo.org or call us at 1-800-230-PLAN.”
