In the evening of May 2nd, we learned through a leaked article that the Supreme Court is poised to upend 50 years of precedent and overturn the constitutional right to abortion. The consequences of this decision to overturn Roe will be swift and devastating for communities nationwide: Overturning Roe means 26 states could swiftly move to ban abortion. We are here to tell you that abortion is still legal in our region - Abortion is still legal in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Our doors are open.

As the oldest and largest provider of reproductive health services in the area, with health centers in DC and Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in Maryland, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington (PPMW),  DC knows that personal medical decisions about people’s sexual and reproductive health should be made by patients, and patients alone. Politicians and judges should never be making personal medical decisions about other people’s bodies.

Generations before us have fought tirelessly to gain and protect the rights we have today. Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC will not back down. We are in a fight to make sure everyone has the power to control their own bodies, lives, and futures. We will continue to provide abortion to our patients and we will fight like hell to protect safe, legal abortion in our region.
