Silver Spring, MD - As the health care landscape evolves, Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC is adapting to meet changing patient needs and preferences; from health centers featuring an award-winning patient-centered design to online appointment scheduling and additional medical and sex education services. In the last 15 months, PPMW has opened two new health centers - in DC and Suitland, MD and will close its Silver Spring location when the lease expires in March. The last day for service is March 17.
For the last year, PPMW’s Board of Directors has been studying patient and community health care needs in the midst of a dynamic health care landscape and voted to absorb the Silver Spring patient base into the brand new state-of-the art health centers in Northeast DC, Suitland, and Gaithersburg, Maryland.
“Planned Parenthood cares deeply about the health of our patients. And our patients continue to want and need more care from Planned Parenthood – creating the opportunity for us to expand our services to address additional needs of our patients, including PrEP and transgender care,” said Dr. Laura Meyers, President & CEO.
All PPMW health centers share an electronic health records system, so patients can rest assured that their health records remain secure and are readily available when they need them. There are no clinical staff layoffs as a result of the consolidation, so our patients will continue to receive high-quality supportive care from the same medical team they know and trust.
“This strategic decision will ensure that Planned Parenthood is in a position to continue to meet the growing and diverse needs of our community in the metro DC area with high-quality health care and education services no matter what,” said Meyers.
