“Since the Supreme Court reversed Roe, PPMW increasingly provides care for patients traveling great distances to reach us. For some, it’s the first time they have ever been on an airplane. 

We are here to help them, with compassion and financial support for their expenses. Since the start of our patient navigation program in November 2022, 70% of the program’s patients have received financial assistance for travel expenses through the Abortion Access Fund.”

One patient's story

When I graduated college, I was 21 years old, starting my professional career, and had just moved into a three-bedroom apartment with four roommates. A few weeks later, I took a pregnancy test and was shocked to discover I was pregnant.

I knew my decision to terminate the pregnancy was right. I wanted to be able to give the best life possible to my future family, and I knew under my circumstances, I couldn’t do that. 

I went to Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC, which was my local provider. When I was called back into the doctor’s office, I was treated by a kind, caring doctor, and we chatted about our lives, my future career, and his family.

I left that day feeling empowered, supported, and prepared for the future.

Today, I am a proud career woman, I have a loving partner, and I am working on a graduate degree in public health. None of this would have been possible without PPMW and I am forever grateful for the care I received there.
