Dear Friends,
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) was just eight days away from the close of our 2022 fiscal year when the United States Supreme Court handed down its devastating decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. We were ready to act. In the months prior to the Court’s decision, PPLM had been preparing for a post-Roe world, while making progress on our relentless commitment to achieving health and social equity here in our local communities.
The goal of achieving health and social equity underpins all of PPLM’s services and programs. In FY22, PPLM worked to expand access to sexual and reproductive health care through increased use of telehealth as well as in-clinic visits at our four health centers. The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund (PPAF), PPLM’s political arm, advocated for new laws and policies to protect and strengthen abortion access and invest in sexual and reproductive health care infrastructure. PPLM offered resources and information to people in the communities where they live and work, and in the languages they speak; delivered innovative, medically accurate sex education to teachers, children, parents, teens, caregivers, and professionals; and conducted research designed to improve the experiences of all patients regardless of age, race, income, gender identity, or zip code.
We accomplished even more. As the fall of Roe v. Wade loomed, PPLM planned and launched two major initiatives that have the potential to change the landscape of sexual and reproductive health care in Massachusetts and across the country. In this Annual Report, you’ll read about ASPIRE, our new multidisciplinary center for Advancing Science and Practice through Innovations in Research and Education. You’ll also learn about the Clinical Health Network for Transformation (CHN), through which we join other Planned Parenthood affiliates to share services and offer our patients the continuity of care they deserve.
Thanks to your generous support over the past year, we have been able to prepare and innovate for the future and remain strong through periods of change. You have helped us intensify efforts toward achieving true health and social equity in Massachusetts, and to serve as a model of resilience and progress for other states. As Jen steps down in the new fiscal year and we navigate a period of organizational change and welcoming a new CEO in 2023, your support is one of the reasons we know we will stay strong. On behalf of our patients, staff, and the communities we serve, thank for your commitment to PPLM.
