What is SHAP?
The Sexual Health Ambassador Program (SHAP) is a peer education program that invites Latino/a/x leaders, caregivers, parents, and members of the Worcester community. The mission of SHAP is to improve the sexual and reproductive health outcomes of the Worcester community. Through education, professional development, and community building our ambassadors are prepared to disrupt health disparities and promote the importance of health equity.
The History of SHAP
The Sexual Health Ambassador Program (SHAP) was created in the fall of 2019. Since being launched in the winter of 2020 our SHAP program manager has coached various cohorts with several Latino/a/x ambassadors. Each cohort has conducted one-to-one conversations with members of the Worcester community and developed capstone projects from addressing sexual health stigmas to reproductive health care accessibility.
SHAP Curriculum
The six-month long program is designed in three phases, orientation, capacity building, and capstone project. Each phase includes sexual and reproductive health education, discussion groups, and journaling.
