Availability
In-clinic abortion (also known as surgical abortion) is offered up to 23 weeks and 6 days after the first day of your last menstrual period.
If your last period started more than 23 weeks and 6 days ago, we can help connect you to other abortion options in your area.
In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.
Preparing For Your Appointment
If you take any medicines, please continue to take them normally before your appointment or bring them with you on the day of your appointment.
If you have asthma, bring an inhaler if you have one.
If you desire medication to help make your in-clinic abortion more comfortable, you must have a responsible companion with you to help you get home safely.
There may be additional charges for lab and blood work.
Payment is expected at time of service unless other arrangements have been made.
What To Expect During Your Appointment
When you choose an abortion service at our health center, you may also receive the following: pregnancy test
Note: There is a parking lot in the back of the building.
Also note that medication abortions are not performed at this center. We refer patients to our First Avenue Family Planning health center in the same building. We cannot always accommodate patients on the same day.
* If you will be receiving sedation, a driver should check in with you and be available to receive a phone call when you’re ready to be discharged.
This medication is recommended for anyone over 12 weeks pregnant.
If you are over 16 weeks pregnant, you will need two visits on two consecutive days. Your schedule should be blocked entirely these two days.
If you are under 16 weeks pregnant, you may eat and drink liquids lightly prior to your appointment.
If you are more than 16 weeks pregnant, you may eat and drink liquids lightly prior to your first appointment. You should not eat or drink prior to your second appointment due to the anesthesia you will receive. You will also need a driver to escort you home prior to your second appointment.
At times there may be protesters outside of the health center. We suggest you avoid interaction with them. This health center offers escorts to walk you inside to your appointment.
Please do not bring children to the health center.
Post-Appointment Information
If you are more than 13 weeks pregnant, your in-clinic abortion may require multiple visits.
CA Requirements
California laws regulate abortion services provided at Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. For reference – the Reproductive Privacy Act of the California Health and Safety Code can be accessed via this link Codes Display Text (ca.gov).
There are no parental involvement requirements for minors who get an abortion in the State of California.
