How can I stop my genital warts from spreading on myself?

If you already have genital warts, you can’t spread them to other places on your own body. Genital warts are caused by HPV. They’re different from warts you might get elsewhere on your body, and you can’t get HPV-caused genital warts by touching yourself (or a partner) with a wart that’s on your hand or foot.

There’s no way to know how or exactly where genital warts will show up on your genitals. They show up differently on every person and sometimes no warts show up at all. It’s also possible to get or spread HPV when there are no visible warts, so using condoms and dental dams can help you and your partners prevent HPV and genital warts.
