Planned Parenthood will resume providing essential health care services in a temporary facility on our property in El Centro before the end of the year after a devastating fire in August destroyed our only health center in the county.
The Imperial Valley Homan Health Center has been a beacon for access to quality and compassionate sexual and reproductive health in a medically underserved area for almost 10 years. It served as a safe haven for people traveling from out of state to access the care they needed.
“Our health center in Imperial Valley was the critical access point for so many patients and we are thrilled to reopen to the thousands of people who rely on us for birth control, STI testing and treatment, annual exams, cervical and breast cancer screening and so many more services,” said Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest Vice President of Business Development Lori Keim. “We are incredibly grateful to the many people who generously support our efforts to rebuild and restore access to health care in Imperial Valley as quickly as possible.”
While we work on opening a temporary facility, we are also rebuilding our permanent health center, which we plan to reopen in Summer 2024.
“Planned Parenthood provided me with the health care I needed during a time in my life when I didn’t have health insurance through my employer,” said Daniela, a resident of the Imperial Valley and longtime Planned Parenthood supporter. “There are people who I know who have had to go without care because they can’t go to the Planned Parenthood health center in Imperial Valley. This was a great loss to our community.”
Until we start offering services again in Imperial Valley later this year, we can still provide all services including abortion at 19 other health centers in San Diego and Riverside counties. We are also continuing to provide gender-affirming care through telehealth.
