In case you weren’t already a fan of Mae Whitman, star of Parenthood and The Duff, we’re about to give you a good reason to jump on the bandwagon.

Mae recently sat down with her mom, Pat Musick, to candidly chat about sex in the second installment of Refinery29 and Planned Parenthood’s “Her Shorts” series titled “Talking to Kids About Sex.”

“When I was younger, my mom worked really hard to establish a safe place where there wouldn’t be judgment of whatever aspect of my sexuality,” says Mae in the video.

While talking to kids about sex may seem difficult or uncomfortable at times, Mae and her mom are a great example of not only how to keep the conversation going, but to make it easy and comfortable for everyone involved.

Watch the video, and if you’re still interested in picking up more information and tools on age-appropriate sex education with kids, head on over to our website.
