(New Haven, CT) – Planned Parenthood of Southern New England celebrates Governor Lamont’s signature of the Connecticut state budget for the 2023 fiscal year and its inclusion of significant investment in reproductive health services.

Statement from Amanda Skinner, President & CEO, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England:

“With the passage and signature of the new state budget, Connecticut has deepened its commitment to providing health care to those who need it most.  We thank Governor Ned Lamont for signing this budget into law and for his commitment to protecting and expanding access to health care. We also thank our legislative champions, especially the co-chairs of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Cathy Osten and Representative Toni Walker, Human Services Subcommittee Chairs, Senator Julie Kushner and Representative Cathy Abercrombie, and the rest of the committee, for advancing a budget that makes necessary investments in the health and wellness of all of Connecticut’s residents.

“The resources in Connecticut’s new budget will make it possible for more people to access high-quality, comprehensive reproductive health care when they need it and from the providers they know and trust. There are significant investments to improve reimbursement and expand the availability of health care to Connecticut’s residents.  Connecticut’s policy leaders recognize that pairing pro-active policy with financial resources is the best way to increase and protect positive health care outcomes for the residents of our state.

“While other states are passing dangerous restrictions on abortion access and other reproductive health services, the passage and signing of both this budget and the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act during this year’s legislative session demonstrate that Connecticut is once again leading the fight for reproductive freedom in our country."
