For Immediate Release: July 24, 2020
(New Haven, CT) — Today, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) announced the permanent closure of two health centers in Connecticut: the Danielson Health Center at 87 Westcott Road and the Old Saybrook Health Center at 263 Main Street.
Statement from Amanda Skinner, President & CEO, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England:
“Due to the unprecedented economic impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to close our health centers in Danielson and Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Like many nonprofit health care providers, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England has been impacted by the financial challenges presented by COVID-19. We have been forced to make hard choices to conserve resources and reduce costs to preserve our ability to continue providing health care today and into the future.
“We’re still here for our patients. PPSNE remains strongly committed to serving our communities — no matter what. In March, we expanded our telehealth services to ensure continued access to essential sexual and reproductive health care and primary care during this public health crisis. Telehealth virtual visits connect patients anywhere in Connecticut and Rhode Island to the PPSNE providers they know and trust to diagnose and treat a range of acute and chronic conditions. Patients have responded enthusiastically to this innovative solution that expands access to health care beyond our physical locations. Through telehealth, we can meet our patients wherever they are and eliminate some of the traditional barriers to access, including lack of transportation and the need to take time off work or arrange child care.
“We will continue to serve our Danielson and Old Saybrook communities through telehealth, in-person visits at nearby health centers, and our education and advocacy efforts. These closures have not resulted in any layoffs, and staff from Danielson and Old Saybrook will continue to serve patients at other PPSNE health centers.
“While we are saddened to close two locations, our patients and our long-term ability to provide care are at the center of every decision we make. Anyone who needs care — either through telehealth or an in-person visit — can call 1-800-230-PLAN (7526) or visit ppsne.org to find their nearest health center, learn more about telehealth, and schedule an appointment.”
