On this first anniversary since the landmark Supreme Court decision was overturned, our focus is on creating a world where true reproductive freedom is a reality for all people.

CONNECTICUT — With a mix of hope and unwavering determination, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England marks the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade — the landmark, but imperfect, Supreme Court decision granting our federal constitutional right to abortion that the court overturned last June.

Access to abortion has been a generations-long fight. And for millions, Roe always fell short — especially in Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities – because rights are only as meaningful as they are accessible. Last June, the fight became even harder when the Supreme Court historically overturned decades of precedent in a decision that cruelly allowed states across the country to ban abortion. But Planned Parenthood won't go back, and we will never back down.

At Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, we are working tirelessly to ensure people across Connecticut and Rhode Island, and from states across the country who are forced to travel and overcome extraordinary barriers, can access the care they need and deserve.

Statement from Amanda Skinner, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England:

“The abortion rights affirmed by Roe v. Wade 50 years ago were stolen from us last June. We are more committed than ever to our vision of a just future where everyone who wants an abortion can access it. We are determined to help build a sexual and reproductive health and rights movement that centers health equity and allows all people to control their own bodies, lives, and future — no matter their income, race, or ZIP code.  Today and every day, Planned Parenthood will fight with all we've got to make true reproductive health and rights a reality for all.”
