Tickets still available for Cocktails, Conversation and Celebration at the College Street Music Hall on Monday, October 16 in New Haven, Conn.

Next week, on Monday, October 16, 2017, Planned Parenthood of Southern New England (PPSNE) will host a night of engaging discussion with The New York Times best-selling author Irin Carmon.

The special event will take place at the College Street Music Hall, 238 College Street, New Haven, Conn. beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a special pre-event reception for sponsors that includes a meet-and-greet with Carmon. The general reception begins at 6:15 p.m. and features passed hors d’oeuvres, coffee, and dessert. The main program begins at 7 p.m. and will include audience Q&A. Described by The New York Times as being “known for her smarts and feminist bona fides,” Carmon is a journalist and author. She is a contributing writer to the Washington Post and the co-author of Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which spent three months on The New York Times Best Sellers list and has gone into its twelfth printing.

“We are thrilled to welcome Irin Carmon for the first time at our New Haven event. Her unique perspective and feminist voice will delight our guests,” said Kafi Rouse, Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing with Planned Parenthood of Southern New England. “We hope our friends and supporters will join us for what is sure to be an entertaining and enlightening evening.”

Guests will have the opportunity to hear Carmon offer fascinating views on intergenerational feminism, the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and health care. Tickets, which are expected to sell out, can be purchased online. Carmon was a national reporter at MSNBC and NBC News from 2013-2016, reporting on gender, politics, and the law, with a special emphasis on reproductive rights and the Supreme Court. She is also a distinguished fellow at the Athena Center for Leadership Studies at Barnard College and has been a visiting fellow in the Program for the Study of Reproductive Justice at Yale Law School. Carmon was named in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in Media, and her work covering women’s rights for a variety of publications has been recognized with numerous awards.

Additionally, special, limited-edition Planned Parenthood scarves created by local artist Lois Goglia will be available to purchase. Goglia has traveled the world and has seen first-hand how many women do not have power or a voice in making decisions about their lives. She named her company Nesola, “Scarves, designed for powerful women.” After October 17, the scarves will be sold online. A portion of all sales will be donated to PPSNE.

All proceeds from Cocktails, Conversation and Celebration will go to care for PPSNE patients who receive high-quality, expert health care, regardless of their ability to pay. Annually, PPSNE serves more than 72,000 women, men and young people, providing a range of critical, life-saving health care services, including breast cancer screenings, well-woman check-ups, birth control and STD/STI testing and treatment.

This special event is open to the public. For more information, or purchase tickets visit ppsne.org/newhaven, call (203) 752-2813 or email [email protected].
