HARTFORD COURANT: Clinics Fear Being Swamped If Planned Parenthood Loses Funding
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
U.S. House Targeting Abortion Services
March 16, 2011 | By RINKER BUCK, [email protected], The Hartford Courant
More than 60,000 Connecticut women this year will visit the local clinics of Planned Parenthood of Southern New England for basic health care, breast and gynecological exams, birth control, abortions and treatment for sexually-transmitted diseases.
But that array of services — especially for poor and uninsured women — will be imperiled if the Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives kills federal funding for Planned Parenthood. One budget amendment, supported by the House Republican leadership, would eliminate all federal funding for family planning. Another amendment, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., would exclude Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funds, including Medicaid reimbursements.
