Medication Abortion Pre-Procedure
Information and Instructions

Please note: you will speak with a health care professional at your appointment about your medical information, all of your options, and you will be able to ask questions.

Information regarding your visit:

Preparing for your appointment

  • All patients are required by State law to attend an information session at least 24 hours prior to their abortion.  You will complete this requirement over the phone with one of our doctors (see details below).
  • Please note: If you are under 18 years of age you will need to come into our office for the information session and a parent of legal guardian must attend this session with you. If this is not possible, judicial bypass is available.
  • On the day of your procedure:
    • Bring your photo ID – photo identification with your picture and date of birth is required.
    • Wear comfortable clothing and underwear that can support a pad.
    • Prepare to be in the center 3 to 5 hours.
    • Give yourself time to find parking and to check in.
    • You may bring one support person with you.
    • Make arrangements for childcare if necessary;  children and infants are not allowed in the facility

Medication Abortion Procedure (Abortion Pill)

  • You can expect to be in the center 3 to 5 hours.  You will have an ultrasound, lab work, an education session and birth control consultation before seeing the doctor.
  • You will take one pill that day in front of the doctor, which stops the pregnancy from growing. You will be given four pills to take home, which you’ll take within the next 24 to 48 hours. This causes you to pass the pregnancy. It takes about 4 to 24 hours to finish passing the pregnancy. While you’re passing it, it’s like having a heavy period with cramping. You may have flu-like symptoms like chills, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
  • You will schedule a follow-up appointment (no additional cost) for 10 – 14 days out to confirm your abortion is complete.
  • There are NO eating restrictions prior to your appointment and we suggest that you have a light meal before you come to the center.

Payment Information

  • The cost of your procedure is $475.00.  Payment is due in full on the day of the appointment in cash, credit card, or a money order. No checks. If you are using someone else’s credit card, that person must be present at your appointment with ID matching the name on the card. Payment is due on arrival.
    • Cost quoted is based on information you have provided and subject to change at time of appointment based on procedure type and gestational age of pregnancy confirmed by ultrasound.
  • If you would like to hear about financial assistance, call us at 215-351-5550.
  • Some insurance is accepted as payment, but must be verified prior to your appointment. Please call us two days before your scheduled appointment to confirm coverage and expected payment.
  • Pennsylvania Medicaid will cover the cost of an abortion in the case of rape, incest or threat to life. If you would like to see if Medicaid will cover your procedure, please call us right away.

Completing your phone call

*The Abortion Control Act (1989) -The Abortion Control Act requires that anyone having an abortion in the state of Pennsylvania speak with a doctor before having an abortion.

  • This conversation can happen no less than 24 hours before the abortion, but may be scheduled more than 24 hours ahead of time, depending on the doctor’s and patient’s availability.
