Make a telehealth appointment at our Virtual Health Center

Wherever you are in the state, Planned Parenthood of Michigan will meet you there with high-quality, affordable care through telehealth appointments. These visits through our Virtual Health Center are a safe, secure, and easy way to get real time care when and where you need it most. This means you can have a virtual visit with a Planned Parenthood medical provider and get select services from your computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone anywhere in Michigan.

How it works

Our Virtual Health Center provides patients with "face-to-face" telehealth appointments where you meet online with one of our Planned Parenthood medical providers. You don't need to physically come to a health center — you'll be connecting from separate locations via a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

Telehealth Services Available

Virtual Health Center visits can be scheduled for these services:

  • Abortion pill
  • Birth control (pill, patch, ring, or Depo-Provera subcutaneous self injection)
  • Emergency contraception ("morning-after pill")
  • Gender-affirming hormone therapy
  • PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), a medication regimen to help prevent HIV for individuals with high risk of exposure
  • Treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Treatment for bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection*
  • Treatment for exposure to chlamydia, gonorrhea, or trichomonas*
  • Treatment for herpes simplex virus (HSV) for those with a previous diagnosis*

* Appointments for starred services are not available through online scheduling; please call 800-230-7526 to schedule.

Tips for a Successful Visit

  • You must be in the State of Michigan during your visit.

  • Find a quiet, secure place to conduct your visit.

  • You may use earbuds or headphones to help protect your privacy.

  • Ensure there is bright lighting on your face, and don't sit with your back to a window.

  • Use a stable Wi-Fi or cell connection when possible.

  • Have your state ID, or school ID/year book for minors, ready to show on camera at the time of your appointment.

Safe, Secure & Easy

Telehealth uses an easy-to-use videoconferencing platform that meets all HIPAA (see our HIPAA policy) and federal security guidelines. Patients need access to a device with a web camera, microphone, speakers/headphones, and reliable Internet connection.

To ensure privacy, please conduct your visit in a place that is secure and will keep your information private and confidential. Your Planned Parenthood provider will be conducting your video conferencing visit in a secure room to maintain your privacy and confidentiality.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will my telehealth visit cost?

The cost for your visit will vary depending on the care you receive during your appointment. Planned Parenthood of Michigan accepts many insurances, including Michigan Medicaid. We also offer an income-based sliding fee scale for patients without insurance.  A credit card is required for payment.

Do I have to live near a Planned Parenthood health center to book a telehealth appointment?

You can access telehealth from anywhere in Michigan. For telehealth appointments, you don’t need to come into the health center — you’ll be connecting from separate locations via a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone. You will be able to discuss options with your Planned Parenthood provider if you need to come into a health center to pick up prescriptions or have lab work.

How soon can I get a telehealth appointment?

Waiting times may vary. Call 800-230-7526 for scheduling availability for all services, or use the Book Your Appointment feature above to search for available appointment times for birth control or emergency contraception.

You can get some of the same telehealth services through our Planned Parenthood DirectSM app.

Or check out some of our convenient online tools like chat/text and Roo for your sexual and reproductive health care questions. You may be able to get answers immediately.

Can I do my telehealth appointment over the phone if I don't have access to the Internet or video capabilities?

It is required that all patients participate with video visits using either a computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

If you are unable to access any of these devices with video, please call 800-230-PLAN to discuss other options.

Will my telehealth visit be private?

Yes. Just like when you visit us for a health care appointment in person, your telehealth appointment will be private and compliant with all HIPAA regulations. Make sure to find a quiet, well-lit, private space on your end for your telehealth visit.

Can I utilize telehealth if I am a minor?

Telehealth services are available to patients of all ages with the exception of the abortion pill, which is not available via telehealth to patients under the age of 18.
