Im 17 and I believe i’m 20 weeks pregnant but I haven’t got any prenatal care and my mom doesn’t know and don’t want her to know right now but if go to a planned parenthood can they give me prenatal care without informing my mom?
You’re doing the right thing making sure you get health care if you think you’re 20 weeks pregnant.
While most Planned Parenthood health centers don’t provide the full range of prenatal care, they’ll be able to connect you with resources in your area.
In general, the staff at Planned Parenthood health centers won’t inform your parents if you visit for a pregnancy test or an ultrasound. But other OB-GYNs or health care providers you visit may have different policies. Wherever you decide to go, you can call ahead of time to find out if they will keep your visit private.
It sounds like you haven’t been able to talk with your mom about what’s going on. I can understand why — lots of teens worry about how their parents will react if they talk with them about sex and pregnancy. I don’t know your mom, but if you’re open and honest and remind her that you trust her and need her help, you may find she’s understanding and helpful. If you can, try to find a time to sit down with her when no one is distracted. Ask her when the best time to talk is.
You’re definitely not the first person to go through this, and no matter what happens with your mom, there are people who want to help. Your nearest Planned Parenthood health center is a good place to start.
