Someone asked us:

I am a 28 year old woman who has sex for the first time did not bleed at all and never did any sorts of activities are used tampons why is this

Some people bleed the first time they have sex and some people don’t. This is because your hymen can be stretched open the first time you have vaginal sex, which might cause some pain or bleeding. But this doesn’t happen to everyone.

The hymen can be stretched open long before you have sex for the first time. Activities like riding a bike, doing sports, or putting something in your vagina (like a tampon, finger, or sex toy) can stretch your hymen open. Once that happens, it can’t grow back. Whether you bleed or don’t bleed the first time you have sex, it’s totally normal.
