If the guy is experienced with having sex, how effective can the “pull out” method be?
The pull-out method — when a guy pulls his penis out of the vagina before ejaculation — is called withdrawal. It can prevent pregnancy by keeping sperm out of the vagina. But it can be really hard for lots of guys to use the pull-out method correctly. Pulling out can be effective if a guy can predict exactly when he’s reaching the point in sexual excitement when ejaculation can no longer be stopped or postponed. But regardless of how experienced a guy is or how well he knows his body, pregnancy can still occur even if the pull-out method is used correctly. This is because some men leak sperm into their pre-ejaculate, which oozes out of the penis before ejaculation.
Depending on the guy and how well he uses the method, withdrawal is from 78 to 96 percent effective.
