Someone asked us: I know a woman’s vagina can stretch in width but does it also stretch in depth?
Yep! Vaginas can stretch in both width and depth. They can stretch to allow something to go in or out (like a tampon, finger, sex toy, penis, or baby). Vaginas are like tubes with walls of wrinkled tissue that lay against one another — kind of like an accordion. They can expand and contract.
When you’re not sexually aroused, your vagina is about two to four inches long (or deep). When you’re aroused (turned on), it can stretch to four to eight inches. When you’re turned on, blood flow increases in your vulva area which helps lengthen your vagina.
Your vagina also creates its own natural lubrication (gets wet) to help make penetration easier. A lot of people also find using extra lube can be even more helpful.
