How much are birth control pills?
Birth control pills cost between $0–$50 a month. They can be totally free with most health insurance plans, or if you qualify for some government programs.
You can get a prescription for the birth control pill from a doctor or nurse at a doctor’s office, health clinic, or your local Planned Parenthood health center. In a few states, you can even get a prescription online or directly from a pharmacist.
Your nurse or doctor will talk with you about your medical history, check your blood pressure, and give you any other medical exam that you may need. If you need an exam, it can cost about $35–$250 (but it may be free if you have health insurance).
Planned Parenthood works to make health care accessible and affordable. Some health centers are able to charge according to income. Most accept health insurance. If you qualify, Medicaid or other programs may lower your costs.
Call your local Planned Parenthood health center to get specific information on costs in your area.
