Do you have to get a pelvic exam before you go on birth control?
Not necessarily. Many nurses or doctors will prescribe birth control without giving you a pelvic exam. A doctor or nurse may perform a pelvic exam if it's necessary. But regardless of whether you’re on birth control, you should have your first pelvic exam with Pap test starting at age 21.
