I’m 16 and I really want to get an IUD. Can teenagers get it?
Yep, teens can totally get IUDs. In fact, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends IUDs as one of the best kinds of birth control for teens to get. That’s because they’re the best at preventing pregnancy and all you have to do is get one inserted and it sits there doing all the work for you for up to 3-12 years. There’s nothing you need to do, like remember to take a pill every day or visit the pharmacy or health center every month. Pretty easy, right?
Talk with the staff at your nearest Planned Parenthood health center or another doctor or nurse. They can help you figure out which type of IUD is best for you, your insurance and payment options, and anything else you need to know.
