In a letter, led by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), and sent to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), 41 Senators expressed strong opposition to extreme proposals by House Republicans that would undermine women’s health and eliminate funding for women’s health programs and bar Planned Parenthood from providing health services, including preventive health care, lifesaving cancer screenings, breast exams, birth control, HIV testing, and testing and treatment for other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through federal health programs and the devastating impact this proposal would have on women’s health care.
