Utah Court Blocks Abortion Ban, Abortion Services to Resume in State
For Immediate Release: June 27, 2022
SALT LAKE CITY, UT — A Utah state court today granted Planned Parenthood Association of Utah’s request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) blocking a 2020 abortion ban that took effect late Friday following the U.S. Supreme Court’s overruling of Roe v. Wade. The TRO will allow abortion services to resume in the state, effective immediately.
Statement from Karrie Galloway, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Association of Utah:
"We’re grateful for this temporary restraining order that will allow abortion services to resume in Utah. The Supreme Court ruling was devastating and terrifying for our patients and providers, but at least for now, Utahns will be able to get the care they need. Today is a win, but it is only the first step in what will undoubtedly be a long and difficult fight. Planned Parenthood will always stand alongside our patients and providers — no matter what.”
