This week, Planned Parenthood received three honors at the 2nd Annual Anthem Awards, a branch of the Webby Awards that celebrates achievement in social change and purpose-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide. Planned Parenthood’s Sexo Sin-vergüenza Blog won a Gold award in the Special Projects category for Health.

The Sexo Sin-vergüenza Blog is Planned Parenthood’s first digital education project featuring original content and resources in Spanish. The blog covers a wide range of sexual and reproductive education topics — including abortion, birth control, relationships, and pleasure — in a culturally-relevant and accessible tone that helps to demystify stigmas and fears while countering online misinformation. Through this blog, young Latinos, their parents, and caregivers can explore conversations about sex and relationships by submitting their questions to experienced sex educators who understand the nuances of these topics within Latino cultures.

Statement from: Silvia Beltrán, associate director of bilingual learning and Marcela Uribe, manager of Spanish digital content design at Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“We are so excited to see the Sexo Sin-vergüenza Blog recognized for its efforts to destigmatize the topics of sex and sexuality. Written by and for Latinos, Sexo Sin-vergüenza aims to stay true to its name (a play-on-words between shameless sex and sex without shame) by providing straightforward, judgement-free answers to people’s questions about their bodies, relationships, and sex lives. We are grateful for this Anthem Award, and thrilled to see this resource grow as it continues to provide accurate, culturally-relevant information to help Latinos make the decisions that are best for them when it comes to sexual and reproductive health — no matter what language they speak.”

Statement from Julia Bennett, MPH, senior director of digital education and learning strategy at Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“I am thrilled that the Sexo Sin-vergüenza Blog has been recognized by the Anthem Awards this year. It was created with a clear objective in mind: Everyone, including Spanish-speaking communities, deserve access to honest and accessible information to make the best decisions for themselves around sexual and reproductive health — no matter what. At a time when millions of people have been stripped of the basic right to control their own bodies, lives, and futures, the Sexo Sin-vergüenza Blog continues to open the lines of communication.”

Winners for the 2nd Annual Anthem Awards will be recognized on February 27 in New York City. Fans will be able to hear from social impact leaders and their hallmark speeches at www.anthemawards.com.

Created by The Webby Awards and selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences (IADAS), The Anthem Awards honor the purpose and mission-driven work of people, companies, and organizations worldwide.
