Planned Parenthood President on Speaker Pelosi

WASHINGTON — Today, Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Alexis McGill Johnson thanked Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her decades of service to America, and her tireless leadership in support of communities nationwide, as Speaker Pelosi announced that she will not serve in leadership in the next Congress.

Throughout her tenure in office and historic career as the first female Speaker in U.S. history, Speaker Pelosi has been a steadfast ally in her support of sexual and reproductive health care. She championed the Affordable Care Act—insisting that it include coverage for birth control without a co-pay and other critical preventive services for women—and secured health care for millions of people, supported funding for research and treatment of HIV/AIDS, coordinated the House response to the fall of Roe v. Wade, advocated relentlessly for LGBTQ+ equality, was a vocal decades-long opponent of the global gag rule, and never wavered in her protection of our democracy.
