Washington, DC – Today, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) announced a Medicare for all bill that would create a single-payer health care system in the United States.

In stark contrast to many of the other health care proposals introduced in Congress this year, Senator Sanders’ bill explicitly includes coverage for reproductive health care, including access to abortion care.

Statement from Dana Singiser, Vice President of Public Policy and Government Affairs, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

It’s a refreshing change to see a health care proposal coming out of Congress that explicitly takes women’s health into consideration. Planned Parenthood applauds Senator Sanders for ensuring that under his healthcare proposal women would have coverage for comprehensive reproductive health care services, including abortion, maternity care, and preventive health services.

“Planned Parenthood supports efforts to expand access to affordable health care for all people. Every person deserves access to quality health care, including reproductive health care, regardless of where they live, how much money they make, their religion, immigration status, race, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Planned Parenthood will keep fighting toward that goal, alongside our partners and allies in Congress.
