Planned Parenthood Mourns the Loss of Dr. Fernando Tamayo, Founder of Profamilia Colombia
For Immediate Release: Nov. 21, 2017
NAIROBI, KENYA – Planned Parenthood mourns the loss of Dr. Fernando Tamayo Ogliastri, founder of Profamilia Colombia and a pioneer for sexual and reproductive health and rights in his home country of Colombia.
Statement from Latanya Mapp Frett, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Global:
Dr. Fernando Tamayo leaves a great legacy behind him. He was a trailblazer for sexual and reproductive health and rights in Colombia during a time when few people were talking about it. He identified, very early on, the importance of ensuring women had access to contraception, and he devoted his life’s work to this cause. Our thoughts are with Dr. Tamayo’s family and his colleagues at Profamilia.
Dr. Tamayo founded Profamilia Colombia in 1965. Profamilia is the Colombian member association to International Planned Parenthood Federation.
