WASHINGTON — Planned Parenthood Federation of America is launching a series of billboards in five states across the country, highlighting where patients can access abortion care now that the constitutional right to abortion has been taken away. The billboards will start running this week with more expected in the coming days near both airports and at the borders of states where abortion remains protected. They will serve as a reminder of the fractured and confusing landscape patients must navigate since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June.

People crossing state lines and driving past the billboards will see the message: “You Are Entering [STATE NAME], which protects abortion rights. AbortionFinder.org.” Ads will be running in both English and Spanish in New Mexico. See samples below:

Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America:

“It’s been nearly three months since the fall of Roe v. Wade and already, 16 states have abortion bans in effect, anti-abortion members of Congress have introduced a nationwide abortion ban, and chaos and confusion persist for people seeking abortion care. Every single day, patients are leaving their homes and driving hundreds of miles across state lines to get the care they need. As more bans take effect, it is critical that people know where and how they can get care, and understand that no matter where you live, abortion access is an issue that affects us all. Planned Parenthood will continue sounding the alarm as hostile lawmakers work to strip us of our rights and do everything we can to get people the care they need and deserve.”

The first round of billboards will be at the following locations:

  • LaGuardia Airport in New York, starting Sept. 19
  • Oakland International Airport in California, starting Sept. 19
  • San Francisco International Airport in California, starting Sept. 19
  • Los Angeles International Airport in California, starting Sept. 19
  • Maryland on Route 1 entering from Pennsylvania, starting Sept. 19
  • New Mexico on I-40 highway from Arizona and I-10 highway from Texas, starting Sept. 19
  • Colorado, on I-25 highway entering from Wyoming, starting Oct. 10

Additional billboards will run in other states that protect abortion access in the coming weeks and months.
