Planned Parenthood Congratulates Speaker Pelosi on Re-Election as Democratic Leader

Washington - Planned Parenthood Federation of America President Cecile Richards released the following statement on re-election of Representative Nancy Pelosi as Democratic Minority Leader:

“Leader Pelosi is a steadfast advocate for women, their reproductive rights and their access to healthcare. Her re-election as Democratic Leader ensures attacks on critical health services like no-cost birth control, cancer screenings, STD tests and abortion will be met head-on.

“President-elect Donald Trump is filling his administration with extreme women’s health opponents such as Tom Price for HHS and Jeff Sessions for Attorney General. Republican leaders in Congress are publicly planning to mount attacks on everything from the care Planned Parenthood provides to 2.5 million patients, the no copay birth control 55 million women receive under the ACA to safe and legal abortion. Now, more than ever, we will need fierce advocates like Nancy Pelosi to block these attacks.
