ST. LOUIS - In response to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling today in Trump v. Pennsylvania, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (PPSLRSWMO) President and CEO Yamelsie Rodríguez issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court has ruled people can now legally be denied birth control coverage by their employer or university. Birth control is critical, time-sensitive medication that treats serious conditions and allows people to plan if and when they get pregnant. It is unconscionable that employers and universities would project their own personal beliefs on their workers for something as common and non-controversial as birth control.

“Birth control has contributed to our society in a profound way – wage gains by women, accessing higher education and so many other aspects of our lives benefit from access to birth control. And the people who benefit the most are young people and people of color. The ideology behind blocking access to birth control – championed by the Trump Administration - is rooted in misogyny and white supremacy.

“At Planned Parenthood, helping people access the full range of birth control options is a core part of what we do. And there is nothing in this decision that will change that. So my message to those affected by this decision is very simple – our doors are open for you. Planned Parenthood will help you get the birth control you need when you need it.”
